4.1 The School views parents as stakeholders and encourages them to express ideas, concerns, and suggestions about the School through the appropriate channels (see the Parent Complaints Policy).

4.2 Parental engagement groups — [NEEDS AFS INPUT: AFS's actual parent bodies, if any]. The source school operated two parent bodies; that two-body structure is retained as a template:

4.3 The Parent Community Group (template) has three key functions: to act as an initial point of contact for parents new to the School; to propose, organize, and facilitate community and charitable events; and to enrich the spirit of the school community through annual community events. The School maintains an account on behalf of the group.

4.4 The Parent Advisory Group (template) provides professional and parental advice regarding the longer-term development of the School, reviews sections of the School's strategic development plan, advises on specific projects, acts as parental representative on matters relating to inspection, and [NEEDS AFS INPUT: confirm whether any AFS parent body holds a consultation or approval role regarding fees and income].

4.5 The full template constitutions for both bodies are maintained in the Parental Engagement Groups Constitutions Policy (AFS-POL-22). The source document reproduced the constitutions in this policy as well; that duplication has been removed in adaptation.

5.0 Staff Involvement in Decision-Making

5.1 It is the policy of [NEEDS AFS INPUT: AFS's governing body] to encourage staff participation in decision-making for the School.

5.2 Such participation shall include, as appropriate, involvement in:

5.3 In the development of regulations and arrangements for the operation of the School, the Principal shall include at the planning stage, whenever feasible, those employees who will be affected by such provisions.

5.4 The professional staff shall be given full opportunity and encouragement to contribute to curriculum development and to the development of policies and regulations pertaining to the instructional program.

5.5 The Principal shall develop channels of communication across the whole School to allow for the ready communication of staff ideas and feelings regarding the operation of the School.

5.7 Regular staff wellbeing surveys are conducted to provide staff with a voice in decision-making. [NEEDS AFS INPUT: confirm AFS's staff-voice mechanisms]

6.0 Student Involvement in Decision-Making

6.1 Students — as individuals and as members of the school community — should have opportunities to take responsibility for their own learning.

6.2 Learning to participate constructively in group decision-making is an important part of growing up; therefore, students should be encouraged, in keeping with their age and level of maturity, to take part in the development of educational activities and routines that affect them.

6.3 In general, such participation is best channeled through class or school organizations, such as age-appropriate student representative councils, which offer early practice in self-government and serve as forums for the expression of student ideas.

6.4 Students have the opportunity to elect their class representatives each year. [NEEDS AFS INPUT: confirm AFS's student-voice structures for KG1 – Grade 6]

6.5 The school leadership team will consider student opinions in decision-making that directly affects student programs, activities, privileges, and responsibilities.

7.0 Non-Discrimination

7.1 Al Fajer Private School is committed to an inclusive policy, which recognizes and values the inherent worth and dignity of every person; fosters tolerance, sensitivity, understanding, and mutual respect among its members; and encourages each individual to strive to reach his or her own potential.

7.2 In line with the school ethos, AFS seeks to develop and nurture diversity and believes that diversity among its many members strengthens the School, stimulates creativity, promotes the exchange of ideas, and enriches school life.

7.3 AFS views, evaluates, and treats all persons solely as individuals on the basis of their own personal abilities, qualifications, and other relevant characteristics.

7.4 Therefore, no person in the School shall be discriminated against on the basis of [NEEDS AFS INPUT: protected-grounds list — to be defined by AFS with counsel, consistent with Bahraini law; the source school's list has not been carried over].

7.5 It is stipulated, however, that this policy does not preclude any policy, program, or activity that has as its aim the improvement of conditions for particular individuals or groups. For example, a program of learning support, or a program to support children with language or cultural challenges, shall not be considered "discriminatory" under the terms of this policy.

7.6 The letter and spirit of applicable law shall be carefully observed, enforced, and supported, so that all members of the school community may work together in an atmosphere of tolerance and respect for individual differences.

7.7 The policy of non-discrimination shall prevail in all matters, including, inter alia:

7.8 The distribution of any materials promoting discriminatory views is prohibited, whether inside the School or on school grounds.

9.7 The Principal's individual accountability to members or committees of the governing body shall be defined by [NEEDS AFS INPUT: AFS governance structure].

10.0 Policy Groups

10.1 The Principal is the leader of the School, with responsibility for managing the School under the policies of [NEEDS AFS INPUT: AFS's governing body].

10.3 Therefore, the school leadership team shall act in an advisory capacity to the Principal.
